Reshape Traffic On Highways Using CityMoS

Reshape Traffic On Highways Using CityMoS

How will connected cars reshape traffic on our highways?

With our partner msg Plaut Austria GmbH and in collaboration with ASFINAG, we recently conducted a study of Austrian highways in combination with the C-Roads C-ITS framework to explore the benefits of connected vehicles and infrastructure.

Leveraging our high-performance virtual testbed, CityMoS, we modelled the A23 in Vienna which is Austria’s busiest highway. Thanks to CityMoS’s advanced automated calibration, we achieved a realism score of over 95%, allowing us to explore various “what-if” scenarios and compared them to a validated baseline.

We examined the impact of a vehicle breakdown on the rightmost lane of a turn just after a tunnel exit — an area which is potentially hard to see for approaching drivers. Our findings show that with a high enough percentage of connected vehicles, the negative effects of such incidents can be significantly mitigated, leading to smoother traffic flow, enhanced safety, and even reduced CO2 emissions.

These and other results will be published in our paper titled “Traffic Flow Impact of C-ITS on Austrian Urban Highway: A Simulation Study”, authored by Alexander Paier, Jacqueline Erhart, Dr. Daniel Zehe. Dr. Jordan IVANCHEV, and David Eckhoff. It has been accepted for presentation at the ITS World Congress (ITS Congresses), held from September 17th to 20th in Dubai. Also join us at booth H5-D1 for a detailed demo of how CityMoS is paving the way for Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems.

A big thank you to ASFINAG and msg Plaut for their exceptional collaboration — we look forward to continuing our work together in the future!

CityMoS, the high-performance digital twin solution for city-scale transport systems, will be showcased at the Future Mobility Asia Exhibition & Summit 2023 taking place on 17-19 May at QSNCC, Hall 3, in Bangkok, Thailand. The CityMoS team will be exhibiting at Stand MA28 in the Singapore Pavilion, where visitors can see live demonstrations and learn about the capabilities and application areas of CityMoS.

Future Mobility Asia is a comprehensive showcase of all future clean mobility concepts, solutions, technologies and innovations. Organised under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy Thailand, the exhibition and summit is the central meeting point for OEMs, mobility innovators, after-market suppliers and technology solution providers to meet, network and drive forward the mobility transition and transformation in Asia.

The CityMoS team is excited to be part of this event and looks forward to engaging with visitors to showcase how CityMoS is enabling future mobility with its next-gen simulation capabilities.

CityMoS is a powerful platform that can help cities, transport authorities, and service providers make informed decisions and plan for the future by simulating the impact of different scenarios on the transport system. CityMoS is designed to support the electrification of transport systems. The platform has been proven to be especially useful in this domain and has been used to support Singapore’s country-wide building of charging stations for private vehicles, buses, taxis, and commercial fleets.

Building onto the award-winning success story in Singapore, CityMoS can answer transport electrification questions in terms of where and how many charging stations a city needs. By coupling CityMoS with a power grid digital twin, the solution can be used to analyze whether the electric grid can support the new energy demand. This innovative approach enables the analysis of various parameters such as the level of electrification, energy grid upgrades, incentivization, and smart charging strategies for cities around the world.

In addition to its electrification capabilities, CityMoS is a comprehensive simulation solution that can simulate a wide range of scenarios. CityMoS also supports the optimisation and electrification of public transport and commercial vehicle fleets. With CityMoS, users can analyze and help mitigate traffic emissions, optimize traffic flows in congested urban environments, and study new modes of public transport, including autonomous shuttles. The digital twin platform provides users with a realistic representation of the transport system and enables them to evaluate and optimize their mobility networks for efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

The CityMoS team invites visitors to stop by Stand MA28 to learn more about this innovative solution and explore how it can help cities in Asia and beyond to achieve their mobility goals. CityMoS can enable the electrification of transport systems and transform mobility networks across the globe.

CityMoS Showcases at SITCE & SWITCH 2022

CityMoS Showcases at SITCE & SWITCH 2022

CityMoS was part of two premier events held in Singapore back-to-back. Singapore is at the hub of Asia Pacific where this region has been a testing ground for some of the world’s innovative and transformative urban mobility services. We are excited to be part of it all!

The fourth edition of The Singapore International Transport Congress & Exhibition (SITCE) took place 2 – 4 November 2022 at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, Singapore. The event explored the theme Heartbeat of Mobility – Towards a sustainable, resilient and seamless public transport, with the focus on improving commuter experience so it can be safer, more inclusive, and convenient. SITCE has established itself as one of Asia’s most recognised events in the urban mobility space and brought together policymakers, urban planners, operators as well as solution providers across the globe to forge partnerships, networking, and exchange knowledge. The event featured around 30 sessions, over 130 global speakers, and over 100 international exhibitors.

We showcased our City Mobility Simulator (CityMoS) at the Exhibition in the Start Up Zone, provided interactive live demonstrations at our booth and presented the enhanced capabilities and powerful features of our high-performance digital twin solution for city-scale transport systems.

We are proud of the positive feedback we have received and are looking back to a very successful participation at the leading public transport event in the Asia Pacific region. We are excited about having connected with urban mobility stakeholders, experienced the latest technologies and solutions, networked with the urban mobility community and exchanged ideas with the industry’s leaders.

Once again, we were able to shine a bright light on our City Mobility Simulator, that caught the interest of many Transportation Industry professionals. We were honoured to demonstrate the powerful features of CityMoS to Mr Chua Chong Kheng, the Deputy Chief Executive, Infrastructure & Development at Land Transport Authority (LTA) Singapore, as well as Mr Yeo Teck Guan, Senior Group Director, Public Transport at LTA.

The Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH) took place 25-28 October 2022 at Resorts World Convention Centre, Singapore. The Flagship Event brought together leaders, entrepreneurs, creators, accelerators and investors from the Global-Asia innovation ecosystem, and is organised by Enterprise Singapore and supported by the National Research Foundation (NRF).

We presented CityMoS on the Trade Floor in a shared booth with other innovative Start Ups, organised by NTUitive. As a global platform to catalyse meaningful collaboration, SWITCH provided the unique opportunity of bringing together startups like us, SMEs, investors, corporate and innovation departments, local and international government bodies and research & development organisations.

We are looking back at 4 days of meeting the Global-Asia Innovation community at SWITCH, connecting to potential partners, successful networking and making meaningful connections.
